La nebulosa M78 - NGC 2068 The M78 nebula - NGC 2068 A.R. 05h46m45s - Decl. 00°04'45" Parte centrale - Central crop

Questa foto della nebulosa M78 nonché delle nebulose limitrofe fra cui NGC 2071 e la nebulosa Mc Neil, visibili nella costellazione di Orione, è stata scattata nelle notti del 25 e 26 novembre 2011 dal giardino della mia casa ad Arcidosso (GR) al fuoco diretto di un telescopio Newton Altair Astro modificato da 8" f/4 su montatura Gemini G41 Obs con FS2. La foto è la somma di 4 + 10 esposizioni da 8 minuti cadauna, con una fotocamera digitale Canon Eos 40D con filtro modificato e raffreddata con una cold box autocostruita che ha portato il sensore a una temperatura fra i 3° e i 6°, settata a 800 ISO. Le pose sono state effettuate con inseguimento mediante rifrattore autocostruito da 4" f/5 in parallelo e autoguida Atik 16IC. Successivamente i frames sono stati calibrati con DeepSkyStacker utilizzando complessivamente 15 dark, 31 flat, 31 dark dei flat e 31 bias. I files sono poi stati sommati con Registar.  E' stato applicato uno stretching, maschera sfocata e riduzione del rumore usando Photoshop CS4. Le stelle sono state protette durante l'elaborazione mediante opportuna maschera protettiva. This photo of the M78 Nebula (NGC 2068) and the surrounding nebulas such as NGC 2071 end Mc Neil's Nebula, in Orion, was taken on 2011, November 25 and 26, from the garden of my home in Arcidosso, in Italy, near Grosseto, at the prime focus of a modded newton 8" f/4 telescope using a Gemini G41 Obs mount with FS2 controller.. The photo is the sum of 4 + 10 frames, each of 8 minutes, with a Dslr camera Canon Eos 40D Rebel (filter modified) , cooled with a self made cold box which reduced the sensor temperature at 37°F / 48°F, exposed at 800 ISO, guiding with a Atik 16IC autoguide on a self made refractor 4" f/5. About processing. I calibrated the frames with Deep Sky Stacker using 15 darks of 8 minutes each, 31 flats, 31 darks of flat, 31 bias. Then I stacked and summed the resulting frames with Registar. At least I processed the stacked file with stretching, unsharp mask, noise reduction using Photoshop CS4. I protect the stars using a protection mask.
